Sainsbury’s Local Frimley Brings Early Christmas Cheer to Elderly and Vulnerable Surrey Heath Residents

Christmas tea party celebrates charity partnership with Camberley Care

CAMBERLEY, Nov.28, 2016 – Caring colleagues from Sainsbury’s Local Frimley store decked the halls of Heatherside Community Centre and took to their kitchens to bring a large slice of early festive cheer to more than 50 elderly, disabled and vulnerable members of the Surry Heath Community at a Christmas Tea Party.

The event, organised in support of Camberley Care Trust, celebrated six months of partnership with the Sainsbury’s team which is undertaking a programme of awareness building, volunteering and fund raising activities for the local charity which provides secure affordable car transport and handyman services to elderly, disabled and vulnerable residents in need.

Sainsbury’s Local Frimley manager Ruben Nunes who presented Camberley Care Trust with a cheque for £1037.00 raised from in store collections said: “At Sainsbury’s we want to make as big an impact as possible in our local communities.

“Every year our colleagues and customers vote to adopt and support a local cause that is right at the heart of the local community. Camberley Care, which has been providing a helping hand with transport for elderly and disabled people living in Camberley and Frimley since 1974, is a perfect fit.”

Lending his support to the event was Councillor John Winterton, Mayor of Surrey Heath who praised the Sainsbury’s team for its commitment to supporting local organisations at the heart of their communities and thanked Camberley Care Trust volunteers for their dedication to helping local elderly, disabled and vulnerable members of the local community enjoy life in their own homes.

Peter Close, chairman of Camberley Care Trust said: “Everyone involved in Camberley Care Trust would like to thank Sainsbury’s colleagues and customers for helping Christmas come early for members of our community who are most in need. As a local charity, totally funded by donations, this type of support from local organisations is critical for the continuation of our service.”

Camberley Care Trust (Registered Charity number 298419) receives no direct Government grant. Funding for its activities comes from sponsorship provided by local churches, volunteer fundraising activities, donations from members of the community and users of its services.

As a major employer and with stores across the UK Sainsbury’s is an important contributor to local employment and local economies. The company believes businesses can make a positive difference to local communities through supporting charitable causes and operates a number of local schemes to help its stores and colleagues support the causes that are important to them in their local areas.
