Al Pinkerton MP visits Camberley Care

In early November we had a visit from the new MP for Surrey Heath, Al Pinkerton.
It was a great opportunity to explain what we do as a Charity and what more can be done to ensure we can continue to help the local community for many years to come.

Al’s post on Facebook can be seen here.

Council Confers Honorary Freedom of the Borough

Surrey Heath Borough Council is delighted to confer the prestigious honorary Freedom of the Borough on six remarkable individuals and organisations, recognising their outstanding contributions to our community.

The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Sarbie Kang said;  “The Freedom of the Borough is the highest civic recognition we can bestow, and it is my great privilege to confer this honour.” The recipients of the Freedom of the Borough are:-

Ken Clarke, in recognition of his public service to the borough as a police officer, and as a local historian for his work to promote the history of Surrey Heath.

Maureen Hume, in recognition of her essential service to the community, working tirelessly in support of local people with dementia and their carers, as founder and chair of the Camberley Alzheimer’s Café.

Karen Jackson, in recognition of her essential service to the community as founder and Chair of Chloe’s and Sophie’s Special Ears Fund Charity, in support of local deaf children to give an everlasting positive impact to brighten their lives at home and in school.

Michael Gove visits Camberley Care

Our outgoing MP, Michael Gove, visited Camberley Care offices recently, as part of our 50th Anniversary. Several Trustees and our office staff explained the work of Camberley Care. Mr Gove was pleased to meet the brilliant team who deliver a car service and a subsidised handyperson service for vulnerable, elderly and disabled members of the local community.

50 Years Celebration

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, we celebrated Camberley Care’s 50th Anniversary. An afternoon tea was held at the Camberley Heath Golf Club premises for Volunteers, Trustees, invited guests and employees. The Worshipful the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor Pat Tedder kindly joined us to represent the Surrey Heath Borough Council.

The Hampshire and Surrey Hills Mens Choir entertained us as we met before tea. Their performance was wonderful and we enjoyed listening to their singing.

The chair of Trustees (Tony Bovenkamp) outlined CCT’s history and thanked all present for their contribution.

There was a quiz (at which we all scored high marks – not) and plenty of sandwiches, tea and cakes.

50th Anniversary

2024 is a special year for Camberley Care as it marks our 50th anniversary!

Camberley Care was founded “around Easter” in 1974 so we don’t have an exact date. Initially it was set up as a telephone advice service only, but over the years it evolved to what you see today. We will be celebrating our golden jubilee with all our volunteers, staff, and trustees, not forgetting our clients. The venue for the main celebration has been booked, the date has been set and detailed planning is in progress. You may also have noticed our special ’50th’ logo on this website.

As more detail becomes available to share we will post it here.

Suggested Donation

The Trustees of Camberley Care Trust last changed the suggested donation for the car service back in 2017. Since then, our costs have risen significantly, and we have therefore increased the suggested donation as of November 1st 2023.

We understand that any increase in costs can be a burden for our clients and their families. However, we believe that the proposed increase is fair and reasonable, given the rising costs that we face. Even after the increase, our car service still represents good value when compared to commercial taxi services, not to mention the extra care and attention that our wonderful volunteer drivers provide.

We are committed to providing the best possible service to our clients, and we believe that this increase in the suggested donation will help us to do so. The suggested donation for a single return will be increased to £10 and £15 for a double return. Trips to Frimley Park Hospital will now be £15. For out of area trips, we will be increasing the donation dependant on the mileage e.g. currently a trip of 10 miles has a suggested donation of £12 for a single return and £24 for a double. From 1st November this will be £14 for a single return and £28 for a double return.

We are grateful for your understanding as we work to ensure that Camberley Care Trust remains financially sound and able to provide the services that our clients need.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to call the office.
