Frimley Park Hospital – Eye Department

EYE DEPARTMENT DROP OFF – Entrance B

One of our drivers has recently been sent a fine for parking outside entrance B (eye department entrance), whist they were dropping off a client for an appointment. We are contesting the fine.

We have spoken to security at Frimley Park Hospital, and we are no longer able to use this option for client drop-off. All clients will need to be dropped off at the main entrance, and they will have to make their own way round to the eye department. For many of our clients, this will be a long walk, for which they will need assistance. They will need to arrange this at the main reception. We will need to extend the pickup time to 45 minutes so they have time to get to their appointment.

Also, please be aware, when parking outside the main entrance, you now only have 10 minutes, so I would advise that if you need to help a client into reception, you do not get too involved in sorting out their journey round to the eye department otherwise you will receive a fine for overstaying the time allowed.

I am trying to find out if there is any way around this, but that will take time, so in the meantime, please follow the instructions above.

This is not an ideal option, but as you know, many hospitals are tightening their car parking arrangements/drop-off zones due to misuse, and unfortunately, this then impacts the work that we do.

Bagshot Road Works – June 9, 2025 for 3 weeks

The warning signs on the A30, Yaverland Drive, and Church Road in Bagshot, regarding the upcoming traffic-light works, may be causing some confusion.

To allow the works to take place safely and limit the disruption to the A30, there will be:

  • No right turn into Yaverland Drive for westbound traffic on the A30
  • No entry to Church Road from the A30
  • No exit from Yaverland Drive onto the A30

These limitations will be in force during the hours 09:00 – 17:00

Eastbound traffic entering by turning left at Yaverland Drive will be able to exit onto the A30 at Church Road. The official diversion on the A30 for those coming from the Bagshot direction will be via the Jolly Farmer roundabout.

A SCC map of the planned traffic management is shown below, which may help.

For up to 3 weeks starting Monday, June 9, 2025
A one-way system will be in place during this time, which will impact the area served by College Ride, Yaverland Drive and Church Road. The one-way system is described thus:-

  • Entry – Left turn into Yaverland Drive from the A30 (for eastbound traffic only)
  • Exit – exit from Church Road to the A30 and turn left (east) onto the A30

You may need to plan an alternative route for journeys to and from this area.
eg:- If you are going to the Miriam Grace Centre at the church, along the A30 from Sunningdale, it is recommended to head towards the Gordon Boys roundabout, taking Red Road, then right onto The Maultway, to rejoin the A30 at the Jolly Farmer/American Golf roundabout and east towards Bagshot.
For your return journey towards Camberley, please follow the reverse route.

TRAFFIC SIGNALS AT YAVERLAND DRIVE

An update from the local SCC councillor

Following a good deal of local interest and conversations with Surrey Highways and local councillors, it seemed a good time to share some of background to the decision to replace the lights.

WHY
The traffic control equipment has been obsolete since 2021 when the manufacturer went out of business. No spares are now available except by salvaging parts from other lights as they are refurbished. These are running out.

WHY NOW
There is due to be a shutting off of the current landline phone system and the lights will have to be migrated to the new digital system. Were this to be postponed then temporary additional hardware would have to be installed and then this would have to be replaced in the future causing even more disruption.

SAFETY
Of course, this is everyone’s prime concern and leaving a junction as busy as the Yaverland Drive one at risk of failure would not be in anyone’s interests.

MONITORING
The traffic management arrangements will be monitored daily to ensure they operate as effectively as they. Highways are aware of local pressures such as Ascot Races and School Exams.

DISRUPTION
The time announced for the lane closures is as ever longer than the time that would usually be needed, to allow for any unforeseen circumstances and work will not necessarily take all of the time set aside for it.

I’m incredibly grateful to the wonderful local charity, the Camberley Care Trust, for inviting me to join in with their work yesterday…

Camberley Care is a charity that’s been helping elderly, disabled, and vulnerable residents in Camberley and Frimley for over 45 years.

🚕 Their volunteer-run car service offers safe, essential transport for those who need support, free of charge (donations welcome).

🛠️ They also provide a low-cost handyperson service for small household jobs, helping people stay safe and independent at home.

This is local care at its best. Learn more, volunteer, or donate by visiting their website.

Hello all,

Spring already, and what a start to the new year it has been!

  • Despite going through some very big changes, our charity is continuing to provide its much appreciated services at near normal levels and I thank all of you for that ongoing commitment.
  • Not only were there several changes at the Trustee Board, Sue Pearson, announced that she is going to step back from managing the office
  • We had to make our first presentation for the King’s Award for Voluntary Services.
  • Oh, and we also had to find, and move into, alternative office space at short notice!

Phew!!
Rest assured we are dealing with all of this, and the first results are in already. The King’s Award presentation was received very well, and we are now successfully operating from a new office next to Camberley station.

Frimley Fuel Allotments have very generously donated £10,000 to us. These funds will be a huge help for us as a Charity.

Interviews for a new office manager are in progress and the search for a new Treasurer is ongoing (that’s a tricky one to fill).

Change can be unsettling which is why we are making a concerted effort to minimise any impact on our Volunteers or Clients. Please keep doing what you do so well, making a difference to so many clients’ lives.

Kind regards,

Tony

New Offices

We have settled in very well at the new Offices. So light & bright!
Many of you have popped in already to have a nosey – If you do get time please come up and say hello! We always welcome visitors 😊
We are up on the 2nd Floor.

New Offices

We are pleased to announce that we have found a new office. The office is located in the blue and yellow building by Camberley station.

From Monday 31st March 2025, our new address will be;

Camberley Care
Suite 2G, Station House
1 Pembroke Broadway
Camberley
GU15 3XD

Our office will be on the second floor and there is a lift for those who need it.

Access

We will, in due course, have a doorbell installed outside the main entrance (picture to follow). In the short term, if you are popping in, please call us and wait either in or outside the café and we will come down and show you up to our office.

Donation envelope drop off/Car parking

There are several options;
The station car park – go past the office block (the blue/yellow building by the station) and then turn left into the car park. There is an option for 20 mins free parking for drop off and pick up.

If you are coming in for a coffee when dropping off your envelopes, the best option is for you to park wherever you park now. I know some of you park outside the library which is around a 3-4 min walk to the new office. You can park in the station car park after 12 o’clock for £1.

If you wish to just drop off your envelopes,  you will need to go past the new office block (the blue/yellow building by the station) and then turn left into the car park. If you call the office, we will come down and collect them from you.

Visiting

The office we are moving to, is not open plan and we are not sharing with anyone else. Whilst we are happy for you all to come and see our new office we cannot accommodate too many of you at once.

We look forward to seeing you at our new office soon and lets hope all goes well on Thursday.

Murder in the Chambers

There were over 40 people attending, the mayor treated us to some delicious home-cooked Indian cuisine. Only 1 team managed to correctly identify the murderer.
